Day 1

-Check in at Blue Door Cottages

Check into your cottage and make yourself at home in the fresh surroundings of Blue Door Cottages over Lake Shafer.

The best way to experience lake living is from the water. Start your vacation with a full view of beautiful Lake Shafer from the water on the Shafer Queen. This double-decker riverboat gives a picturesque tour of the shores of Lake Shafer.

After your relaxing river cruise, head back to Blue Door Cottages for Movie Night. Bring your blanket, pop some popcorn, and we will entertain you with a family-friendly movie on the lawn on our big outdoor screen.

Indiana Beach Amusement Park

Day 2

-Indiana Beach Amusement Park--enjoy the roller coasters, water slides, Stunt Spectacular Water Show

-Howl along with the wolves in Wolf Park at dusk.

Gear up for big amusement park fun! Indiana Beach Amusement Park is one of the oldest, and most unique and enjoyable amusement parks in the country. Park your car in the south parking lot--the view over the suspension bridge as you enter the park is breathtaking! Hold onto your hat as you fly over the lake on the famous Hoosier Hurricane and Cornball Express roller coasters.

You can take a wet and wild ride on the six water slides, enjoy a tranquil moment on an inner tube on the fun river, or relax on the sandy beach.

Enjoy traditional amusement park favorites such as corn dogs and pork tenderloin sandwiches. Kick back and enjoy the Stunt Spectacular Water Show--where stunt masters on water skis and jet skis perform stunts that will thrill and amaze you--they'll even be set on fire!

Sunday night, Wolf Park will provide great entertainment, where you can observe how wolves and bison live, experience live predators as they stalk their prey, and participate in the howl-along with the wolves at dusk!

Boat Rental

Day 3

-Rent a boat to enjoy a beautiful day on the water.

-Visit Whyte Horse Winery

-Dine at the Sportsman's Inn

Pack a cooler, your beach towel, and your sun glasses. You are off for a beautiful day on the water. Drive to the local marina and rent a pontoon boat or motor boat to explore the lake on your own. Cruise up and down the shores, then pick a quiet spot to drop anchor and let the waves rock you to sleep in the mid-day sun. Or, if speed is your thing, rent a tube and pull the daring souls in your group behind the boat!

Visit the charming Whyte Horse Winery located in a beautiful country setting just 15 minutes from the cottages. Enjoy nearly a dozen wines from their collection in the picturesque tasting room in a renovated 1886 farmhouse.

For dinner, enjoy an elegant meal at the Sportsman Inn, overlooking the water. Later on, check out one of our fun family games... teach the kids how to play an old-fashioned game of horseshoes or croquet.

Tippecanoe Country Club

Day 4

- Enjoy a round of golf

- Relax at the Blue Door Cottages pool.

- Experience a real "dog and suds" drive in with curb-side service.

- Try your hand at mini-golf or go-carts

Golf is the theme of the day... make an early tee-time at one of the public courses in town, or you may choose to head to nearby Lafayette. In Monticello, the Tippecanoe Country Club is one of Indiana's nicest courses. You'll enjoy the view from some of the holes that are right on the lake. Or the Pine View Golf Course is a nice par-3 course that is lit, and may be played day or night.

For the true linxs enthusiasts that can't get enough golf, take a short drive to West Lafayette to the Kampen Course at Purdue University. This Pete Dye-designed course is one of the toughest collegiate courses in the nation. This public course is a true test of golf abilities, and it has hosted numerous Big-Ten and NCAA championship tournaments. Or, visit the Coyote Crossing Golf Course, voted the #1 course in the state of Indiana and #7 nationally on the list of "Best New Affordable Public Courses."

Head back to your cottage for an afternoon of lounging by the pool with a tall glass of ice-cold lemonade. Take a nap in the sun in a lounge chair by the pool.

For dinner, stop at B and K's--an old-fashioned "dog and suds" place with curb side service. Get a foot-long and an old-fashioned root beer in a frosty mug--they will conjure up memories of Happy Days!

As dusk approaches, round up the kids for a game of mini golf. See who is the first to get a hole in one! In the same area, you can also enjoy go-karts and arcade games.

Berry picking

Day 5

- Breakfast overlooking the lake

- Berry picking and farmer's roadside stand visit

- Rail Road museum and restaurant

- Grill out, build a camp fire, look at the stars, tell ghost stories

This morning, walk across the street to the Shafer Yacht Club restaurant to enjoy an early morning breakfast on the deck. Sip your coffee, and breathe in the calm of the lake from the only waterfront restaurant on Lake Shafer. After enjoying the calm of the morning lake, round up the gang for a road trip to a local berry farm.You'll have fun at this "you-pick" berry farm, where you can find the best strawberries, blueberries and raspberries of the season. While you are out, stop at one of the roadside farmer's markets for some fresh corn on the cob and other vegetables to grill tonight.

On your way back to town, stop in at the Monon Rail Road Museum to see some historic rail cars and learn about the history of a bygone era of railroad travel. Check out the Whistle Stop Restaraunt while you are there!

Head back to your cottage to grill a fabulous dinner of burgers and the fresh corn on the cob and vegetables you selected at the farmer's roadside stand. Top off dinner with a bowl of vanilla ice cream with fresh-picked berries and a glass of sweet port wine. Or, create your very own signature sangria by mixing some of the highlights of your day: port wine, fresh berries, and orange juice for a perfect cool summer drink.

After the sun sets, build a fire in one of our portable fire pits. Make a fun evening telling ghost stories and looking for your favorite constellations in the stars.

Horseback Riding

Day 6

- Gourmet coffee house

- Horseback riding along Crooked Creek, or moonlight horseback rides

-Indiana Beach boardwalk--dancing, live music, dinner

Today, you are in for a different kind of horseback riding experience. But before you head to the trails, you may need some caffeine to get you going. If so, stop at The Perfect Blend just off the square downtown for that perfect cup of coffee or chai tea along with a perfect little pastry.

Just outside of town at Crooked Creek Trails, you'll enjoy a guided horseback tour that runs through woodlands and along scenic Crooked Creek. You may choose to enjoy a relaxing jaunt through the wooded trails during the day, or you can make a reservation to experience one of the famous Moonlight Rides along the six miles of trails after dusk.

This evening, you will enjoy all the night life Indiana Beach has to offer. After dark, the boardwalk lights up, and the park is transformed into an array of dancing lights and neon. Enjoy dinner at the Skyroom Restaurant. Check out the Roof Garden Lounge for live music and dancing.

Fishing

Day 7

Today you will kick back and enjoy some of the best bass fishing in the state. Mosey down to one of the local marinas to rent a little john boat and get some fishing tackle. Get directions to the Big Monon, a finger of the lake where you'll find the most nibblers. You may be able to spot bass, bluegills, wipers (a hybrid of white bass and striped bass), catfish, crappies, and carp. As one angler put it, "some days going up to Shafer during the week is like fishing from a stocked pond."

If fishing is not your 'cup of tea', you may enjoy perusing the inviting atmosphere of the area's antique shops. Search for that perfect antique silver teacup, or vintage pillbox hat to complete your collection. For this evening's entertainment, you'll visit one of the country's last operating drive-in theaters. You'll see two movies under the stars. You can decide if you want to enjoy the movies from the comfort of your own car, or stretched out on picnic blankets and lawn chairs.

Day 8

Even if it rains, there are plenty of opportunities for family fun!

Take the gang bowling at Monticello Bowling Lanes, and show everyone how you knock them all down with a perfect strike!

Fair Oaks Farms Dairy Adventure
Take a road trip to Fair Oaks, where you can tour a modern dairy farm. See cows being milked on a merry-to-round, how milk is made into cheese and ice cream, and a calf being born right before your eyes!

Cinema on the Square
Take in a movie on the town's center square at the Twin Lakes Cinema. You can see first run movies at very reasonable prices.

Rail Road Museum
On your way back to town, stop in at the Monon Rail Road Museum to see some historic rail cars and learn about the history of a bygone era of railroad travel.
